Nori the Kelpie

Nori the Kelpie
Nori is one of a collection of Kelpies, faerie horse-like creatures which inhabit bodies of water and entice humans onto their backs so they can drown them.
For my interpretation of these interesting creatures, I designed a powerful horse body pattern and gave them fierce eyes and fangs. Their manes and tails are wild streamers of pondweed which I created with satin and organza on my embroidery machine. They also feature three-toed feet resembling those of a hippo, a nod to their watery homes and the common description of Kelpies having ‘backwards hooves.” They also feature pink gills behind their jawbones. The embroidery for the eyes and manes also glows in the dark!
